Damascus. A stone paste tile, the background painted in underglaze cobalt-blue. The design showing a spray of foliage with branches terminating in various flower heads including a tulip and carnations painted in turquoise, green and manganese purple. A bird, painted in blue and manganese purple sits on a white carnation. Remnants of a painted border run vertically down the right edge. 18th century. 9.5 x 8.5in. {24.2 x 21.6 cm.} Condition: Intact. Minor chipping to some edges |
